Stuck in the mud

Today it is slightly overcast but warm as can be and pleasantly humid so I thought it would be a good day, after all the rain we've had, to meet Nathan at the park for lunch. We went on a walk along a narrow trail that follows the edge of a pretty large canal, Tucker loves it  back there and since there are hardly any people we usually let him run free. Today was no exception, and that being said he went straight for the water just like usual. Only this time he didn't come back.

We called and called but when there was still no sign of our puppy popping up over the grassy edge we retraced our steps and heard a low whimpering. It just took one look and Nathan and I were headed down the steep bank to find Tucker in the most awkward looking position in the water not moving a muscle. We obviously both thought he was hurt pretty bad and with Nathan being in his work clothes and needing to go back to the office I knew I needed to get in the water if anyone did. I didn't think it was all that deep since it was only up to the dog's shoulders but boy was I mistaken! My rolled up pants were soaked with one step, the second brought the brown water to my bottom and I realized Tuckers back legs were stuck in the mud. I put my hand on his back and maneuvered to get a grip around him when suddenly he bounds, one leap up and out! The silly dog shook and shook, soaking the rest of me, and Nathan's pants then kept bounding away chasing the butterflies happy as you please. Silly dog, either thought he was stuck or was messing with us pretty good.

Either way I am happy to say it was warm water, a warm day, a scary moment, a great story and everyone is okay! Hopefully he was stuck and won't think it was a fun game. It would be a bummer if he cried wolf one too many times...
